The visualisation shows 4 important clusters of the US fortune 500 Director Interlock Network. The originally completely connected network has been clustered by a deviation of Newmans clustering algorithm.
Networks can be transformed into power landscapes. The centrality scores of all network elements are transformed into heights of a landscape. The landscapes are computed with standard GIS software. The x and y coordinates are taken from spring embedder algorithms that are frequently used in network analysis.
Peaks in the four clusters shown in the power landscape:
| Cluster One | Cluster Two | Cluster Three | Cluster Four |
| Sun Trust Banks | Target | Pfizer | 3M |
| Chubb | Abbott Laboratories | Verizon Communications | Sara Lee |
| Continental Airlines | SBC Communications | Honeywell Intl. | Allstate |
| Goodyear Tire & Rubber | Burlington Northern Santa Fe | J.C. Penney | Bell South |
| Gannett | Anheuser-Busch | J.P. Morgan Chase | Mc Donald |
| Textron | General Electric | Viacom | Dow Chemical |
| | Exxon Mobil | AMR |
| | New York Life Insurance | Bank One Corp. |
| | May Dept. Stores | UAL |
| | Xerox | General Motors |

Some peaks are in the middle of a single cluster. The central peaks are the backbone of a cluster. Others are separated from the main mountains. Separated peaks are brokers to other clusters and are rather located between clusters than part of a single cluster.
