Description
Client: Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research
Challenge:
Our client needed to know the network pattern of the Austrian basic research to develop new funding strategies. The main issue was to highlight the correlation between funding amount and specific network morphologies.
Solution:
FAS.research developed structural indices to detect specific network patterns and determined their correlation with funding input and strategies. In addition, FAS.research mapped the Austrian Basic Research Network and compared the periods of 1998-2002 and 2003-2007. The most remarkable difference is the movement of the formal sciences from the network core (brokerage position between natural and cultural sciences) to a more peripheral position within the natural science area.
Results:
The results of our analysis and the FAS strategy maps helped to shape our clients´ funding strategies for the area of Austrian basic research.
